James Beatty was raised by a single father of four kids, who had a tough time keeping a steady job. Erica Beatty shared a similar experience, even forced into the foster care system after her single mother was unable to care adequately for her and her siblings. For their family, owning a home will not only be a dream come true, but a bright hope for the future of their four children.
Even with their stable jobs, and excellent credit saving enough money to purchase an adequate and affordable home seemed bleak. The opportunity to partner with Habitat for Humanity to achieve homeownership allows them to move from their humble apartment with limited safe places for the children to play. They are able to continue caring for James’ father as he recovers from health issues and builds a relationship with his grandchildren. They are able to take pride in their neighborhood in a way they have never experienced and to offer stability and safety for their family.
