If you are looking for a meaningful way to serve others, A Brush with Kindness can provide you or your group an opportunity to bring hope to someone needing help in maintaining their home. This program connects teams of volunteers to homeowners in need. Volunteers scrape, paint, help with minor repairs and yard work. When homes are selected and projects are organized, volunteers will contact the office and be arranged into teams by the volunteer coordinator.Qualified applicants meet with A Brush with Kindness committee member to determine the homeowner’s need.
Application
A Brush with Kindness invites homeowners who need help in maintaining their homes to apply for assistance by contacting our office for an application.
Application Review.
A Brush with Kindness, in partnership with local groups, will determine which eligible homes will be chosen for the project based on financial need, condition of the house, family circumstance and the availability of volunteers. Applications Will be accepted year-round on a first-come-, first -served basis. A volunteer leader no later than two weeks prior to the first workday will notify homeowners chosen for the program. Together, they will work out project details including the scope of the work and when the job will be completed. Work will be dependent on volunteer skills.
Project Start Date
Most projects will be completed within a two week period, depending on the resources available such as volunteer labor, funding and materials. Projects will occur throughout the year.
Eligibility Criteria
Have a need for minor exterior repairs that cannot be afforded by the homeowners.
Provide proof of ownership and current homeowners insurance.
Meet income limits posted on our website. These limits are based on the combined household gross income for all adults over the age of 18.
Home must be located within a 16-city service area as listed on the back of the brochure.
Agree to assist in the work to the best of your ability; Also can volunteer to assist other families having work completed in their home.
Home repairs may not exceed program budget for material costs.
Priority will be given to homeowners who have the greatest need.
Outreach
A Brush with Kindness serves low-income homeowners struggling to maintain a decent place to live in. It is an outreach of the Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity that complements our homebuilding to further impact neighborhoods.
We are available to do community presentations. Please contact us if you would like a volunteer to speak to your congregation, neighborhood, or agency.
